As many schools are looking to move their teaching from in-person to online platforms to help stop the spread of COVID-19, Google Classroom is emerging as a potential option.
Google Classroom allows you to create a virtual classroom where you can post YouTube videos, quizzes, discussion questions, articles, whole websites for your students to go to, etc. You can also set due dates and virtually grade things that your students turn in. You can open papers your students are working on and leave feedback and comments. There are lots of amazing features.
Google Classroom can also function as a place to train parents. Consider setting up a classroom, adding all your parents and posting “how to” videos. How to take data, how to teach that tricky math problem, how to use a token economy effectively at home. As the school’s move online, facilitation moves to parents. We are going to need to empower parents to take charge of their child’s learning and a place where they can go to receive instructional videos might be the best option.
